2 Lexington shootings in one hour leave 3 people wounded, police say

Three people were wounded in two early-morning shootings on Friday, Lexington police said.

The first was on Cambridge Drive where two men were shot inside an apartment complex and taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening, according to Lt. Chris Van Brackel. He said police responded to the scene just before 5 a.m. Cambridge Drive runs between Versailles Road and Alexandria Drive.

Van Brackel said police were looking for a man with dreadlocks who was a suspect, but they didn’t have further details. Investigators didn’t know if he fled the scene on foot or by vehicle, Van Brackel said.

Just after 5:15 a.m., police heard shots fired in the area of Chestnut and Fourth streets, near downtown, Van Brackel said. They found shell casings and damage to a car window, Van Brackel said. About 20 minutes later, a shooting victim believed to be connected to the incident showed up at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Van Brackel said.

He had “more serious” injuries than the victims of the earlier shooting, Van Brackel said.

Police did not immediately have a suspect description in the second shooting, Van Brackel said.

Brenna Angel, a spokeswoman for the police department, said Friday it was too early to know if the shootings were connected..
