Kentucky man charged with murder of wife after fight leads to shooting, police say

A Jackson County man has been charged with murder in the death of his wife after Kentucky State Police said they found her remains.

KSP said troopers and detectives from Post 7 arrived at a residence in Jackson County Sunday morning to find 52-year-old Peggy Vanwinkle, a McKee resident, dead. An initial investigation showed that she and her husband, 59-year-old Farris Vanwinkle, got into an argument, police said.

Farris retrieved a gun and fatally shot Peggy, police said.

Farris has been charged with murder, abuse of corpse and evidence tampering. He was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Jackson County sheriff’s office and Jackson County coroner’s office assisted KSP on scene. KSP is still conducting an investigation.
