Laurel County deputies find 2 pounds of meth. KY suspects face federal prosecution

Laurel County sheriff’s deputies said they found two pounds of meth in a car during a traffic stop Sunday night.

Michael D. Bowling, a 62-year-old Tyner resident, and Jimmy E. Cox, a 47-year-old North Carolina resident, were both turned over to federal authorities for prosecution due to the large quantity of meth. Bowling was also charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, careless driving and failure to signal.

Deputy Landry Collett pulled the suspects over for a lane change violation on Hal Rogers Parkway, according to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.

Collett believed the driver was under the influence and became suspicious of both him and the passenger, Acciardo said.

With the help of two other deputies, they discovered “a large quantity of crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine,” Acciardo said. They also found a used needle, Acciardo said.
