Lexington police investigate after two shot at North Broadway gas station
Lexington police are investigating after a shooting injured two people at a gas station on North Broadway.
A Lexington police officer was at the Thorntons gas station at the corner of North Broadway and West Loudon Avenue buying a drink when he was alerted about a man and woman in an argument, police Sgt. Donnell Gordon said. The officer went outside to see what was happening, and as he exited the building there was a shooting.
Both the man and woman involved in the argument were shot, but police are trying to learn who fired or if more than one weapon was involved, Gordon said.
When he exited the store, the officer tried to get the man involved to drop his weapon, Gordon said Tuesday. The officer did not fire his own weapon, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said Wednesday.
Investigators believe the man and woman were the only two involved in the shooting, and that there were no other suspects, Gordon said.
The conditions of the wounded man and womanwere not known as of Tuesday afternoon, but they were immediately taken to a Lexington hospital, Gordon said. The officer was not injured.
Police are asking anyone who saw anything to call at 859-258-3600.
