Man charged with DUI after crash causes power outage for Lexington neighborhood
About 100 Lexington residents were left without power for several hours Tuesday when a driver accused of driving drunk crashed into an electric pole, and his car caught fire, according to Lexington police and Kentucky Utilities.
Maurice Moberly, 23, was charged with DUI after he hit the pole in the 1600 block of Tates Creek Road around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Chris Van Brackel. The single-vehicle crash caused Tates Creek Road outbound to be shut down for several hours before it was reopened around 7 a.m., Van Brackel said.
Nearly 100 residents were without power until about 6:30 a.m. due to the crash, according to Kentucky Utilities’ power outage map.
Police weren’t sure how much Moberly had to drink, Van Brackel said. Moberly wasn’t injured in the crash.
