‘We’ll always remember you, 25.’ Douglass football team mourns teen’s death in shooting

A 17-year-old has died after a shooting in Lexington Friday morning, the coroner’s office said.

Micheal Proctor, 17, died from a gunshot wound at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, the coroner’s office said in a statement.

Micheal played football at Lexington’s Frederick Douglass High School from 2017-2019, the team tweeted Friday.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Bronco. Prayers to his family, fellow students and scholars, and both Douglass and Carter G staffs,” the team said on Twitter. “We’ll always remember you, 25.”

Douglass coach Nathan Mcpeek also expressed his condolences on Twitter: “Prayers from our coaches, players, school, and Carter G. This game is a brotherhood and Michael will be missed.”

Lexington police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of North Broadway and McClain Drive around 5:30 a.m., Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. Once they arrived to the residential area, officers found the man outside who had been shot, Van Brackel said. He was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Van Brackel said.

There was no information on a suspect, Van Brackel said. Police are hoping to gather information from the public, he said. He encouraged those who have information to contact police by calling (859) 258-3600.
