Boyle County Detention Center

Kentucky State Police have arrested and charged with murder a Lincoln County man in connection with a woman whose body was discovered in 2016.

John Gordon Stamper Jr., 22, of Stanford was held Saturday in the Boyle County Detention Center.

Police arrested Stamper on Thursday, according to state police. They released no other information about the case.

A group of ATV riders found the body of Desiree Sparks, 22, of Danville in a wooded area on West Skyline Drive in the Stanford area in October 2016.

Sparks had been reported missing several days earlier. She was last seen Sept. 27, 2016, leaving the area of Citation Drive in Danville and was believed to be in the company of an unknown male in a dark-colored SUV, according to a news story in The Interior Journal, a Lincoln County newspaper.

State police said Saturday that they are continuing to investigate the circumstances around Sparks’ death.
