Lexington murder suspect found in Central Kentucky one day after shooting, police say

A woman wanted on a murder warrant after a fatal shooting in Lexington on Tuesday has been taken into custody, according to police.

Dana Caldwell, 39, was found in Lancaster Wednesday morning, Lexington police spokeswoman Brenna Angel confirmed. She had active warrants for murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Caldwell was going to be extradited to Fayette County, Angel said.

Caldwell was accused of shooting and killing Daniel Eric Nantz, 38, in a home on Larkwood Drive Tuesday. The two knew each other and were involved in a disorder before Caldwell allegedly shot Nantz, according to police. She fled afterward, police said.

Nantz was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after the shooting but died from his injuries, according to police.

Nantz was the city’s 26th homicide of the year.
