Lexington police are investigating the homicide of a man found inside a West Main Street building early Friday, according to police.

The victim’s identity and cause of death had not been released by the Fayette County coroner as of 4 p.m.

The homicide is Lexington’s 32rd of the year, just one short of the record-setting mark posted in 2020.

According to Lt. Chris Van Brackel, officers responded to UK Chandler Hospital at 2:48 a.m. Friday for a man that walked in with a gunshot wound. Police “discovered that the incident had occurred in the 700 block of W. Main Street,” Sgt. Donnell Gordon said later Friday.

When officers “returned to the area,” they discovered the dead man inside an apartment at 721 West Main, police said.

Camera footage from the building showed several people fleeing the building at the time of the shooting.
