One person has died and another suffered life-threatening injuries after a wreck on I-75 in Scott County on Wednesday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle accident near the 122 mile marker around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, one person was dead and another seriously injured. That person was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

Debra Keyser of Lexington was identified Thursday morning as the woman who died in the crash. Keyser was an employee of the Fayette County Schools System, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Fayette schools website said Keyser was a special education teacher at Wellington Elementary.

The collision occurred when the car driven by Keyser left the west side of I-75 Southbound and struck a tree. A second vehicle was also involved in the crash, according to preliminary reports. The passenger of Keyser’s car was transported to the hospital, and remains in critical condition on Thursday morning.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff/Georgetown Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Two lanes of I-75 Southbound were closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
