Update: Former Ky. state rep. says daughter was killed in shooting. Investigation ongoing.
A fatal shooting at a well-known Madison County house is under investigation, according to local officials.
Kentucky State Police said dispatch received a call regarding a shooting at 1266 Willis Branch Road just after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. One person was pronounced dead on scene by the Madison County coroner, state police said.
The home where the shooting happened was owned and previously put up for sale by former state Rep. C. Wesley Morgan. It’s still on the market and Morgan still owns it, the Madison County Property Valuation Administrator’s office confirmed Tuesday.
When contacted via phone, Morgan told a reporter that he wouldn’t provide details on the shooting until state police investigate, but he did confirm that his 32-year-old daughter was killed.
Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison confirmed Jordan Morgan, 32, was killed in the shooting. He also said C. Wesley Morgan was taken to a hospital after the shooting but released back home later Tuesday.
Jordan Morgan worked on Republican Matt Bevin’s successful 2015 campaign for Kentucky governor and stayed with him for about 18 months as a member of his communications team at the Capitol in Frankfort. In 2017, she left politics to prosecute felonies as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Boone County. She recently joined the Reminger law office in Lexington.
State police wouldn’t identify Jordan or C. Wesley Morgan by name, but said a female related to the homeowner was shot and killed by an armed intruder, based on the investigation. The homeowner exchanged gunfire with the suspect, state police said. The homeowner was injured in the shooting and taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
He was released from the hospital Tuesday, state police said.
Morgan told the Herald-Leader he and his wife were “shot up,” but he did not provide further details.
Several family members were at the home asleep when the shooting happened, according to state police. An individual, possibly a group of people, entered the residence and fired shots which killed one person, police said. The suspect left the residence after the shooting and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, police said.
A state police detective was leading the investigation into the shooting. The investigation was still active Tuesday.
Anyone in the area who might’ve seen anything suspicious between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. is encouraged to contact state police at 859-623-2404.
Morgan’s Willis Branch Road home was previously put up for sale for $6.5 million and received attention because it features a doomsday bunker.
