A corrections officer at the Madison County Detention Center has been charged with third-degree sodomy after he allegedly sexually assaulted an inmate.

Connor Ashton Gray, 22, was the officer accused of the assault. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment early Wednesday morning before Judge Charles Hardin.

A call was made to Kentucky State Police Tuesday around 3 a.m. to report Gray was suspected to have assaulted an inmate at a hospital where they were being treated, according to Gray’s arrest citation.

The citation further stated the inmate had escaped custody at the hospital around 1 a.m., was re-arrested, returned to the hospital for treatment and alleged assault against Gray.

At that time, Gray was also taken to state police Post 7 in Richmond where he was interviewed, read his Miranda Rights and willingly spoke with law enforcement, according to court records.

According to court records, Gray confessed to having the victim perform oral sex on him inside the hospital room. He alleged the victim initiated the sexual contact by verbally expressing their desire to engage with him sexually, as well as physically engaging with him sexually on more than one occasion.

He further stated the victim continued this physical engagement and he agreed to let them perform oral sex on him, according to court records.

Corrections employees in Kentucky are not allowed to engage in sexual contact with someone who is incarcerated, supervised, evaluated, or treated by the Department of Corrections, according to Kentucky law.

Gray was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center. He will hire a private attorney and is scheduled to reappear on May 11.
