Updated: Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck in Lexington, police say

A Georgetown man was killed in Lexington on Saturday evening after he was hit by a truck while crossing the street, according to Lexington police.

Cody Dillon Kirk, 23, was traveling near Winchester Road and Detroit Avenue around 7 p.m. when he was struck by a maroon pickup truck, according to Lt. Dan Truex with the Lexington Police Department.

According to a press release from Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn, Kirk received blunt force trauma injuries to his head, torso and extremities and was transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck sustained no injuries according to Truex.

Lexington police said the driver isn’t facing criminal charges at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Police didn’t say whether Kirk was in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

LPD is continuing to investigate the incident.
