A man who was severely injured in a shooting in south Lexington late Friday has died, police said Saturday.
Police found the man when they were called to the 1100 block of Octavian Way, which is near Centre Parkway and Appian Way, at about 11:20 p.m., said Lexington police Sgt. Thomas Johnston. Police said in a news release later Saturday morning that the shooting happened on the 1000 block of Accord Drive.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office said Steven Dwayne Mayes, 35, of Lexington, was pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky medical center at 11:54 p.m.
Sgt. R. Guy Miller from the Lexington Police Department told the Herald-Leader that “all parties have been identified in the shooting” but no charges had been filed. The investigation was still ongoing, Miller said.
He said CPR was started on the man at the scene, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story gave an incorrect age for the victim of the shooting and stated that charges were pending following the incident. Lexington police have since clarified that charges have not been filed.
