Lexington police have returned an escaped inmate back to custody at the Fayette County Detention Center as of Sunday morning, according to Maj. Matt LeMonds.

Samantha Collins, 19, was released from the jail at 8:47 a.m. Thursday and was supposed to return at 7 p.m., but didn’t show up, LeMonds said. With assistance from the Lexington Police Department, inmate Collins was placed back into custody earlier Sunday.

Collins was being held on a burglary charge and two counts of theft, according to the jail. She is now being held on a new charge of second-degree escape, according to LeMonds.
