Updated: Mother charged with murder after 2-year-old dies in overdose, Lexington cops say

A Lexington woman has been charged with murder and criminal abuse involving a child 12 or under after a 2-year-old overdosed on fentanyl, according to court documents and Lexington police.

Alashia Brown, 24, was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center Monday evening, according to jail records. The incident occurred Sunday, court records show. She was initially charged with criminal abuse, but a murder charge was added after the child died at a hospital on Wednesday, police said.

Brown was being held without bond in the Fayette County Detention Center Thursday, police said.

Police said in court documents that the child suffered serious physical injury, but didn’t initially indicate whether the injuries were life-threatening.

Brown is scheduled to appear in Fayette District Court on Monday for an arraignment hearing at 1 p.m.
