Updated: 1 woman dead after a shooting near Masterson Station Park, Lexington police say
A man has been detained after he allegedly shot and killed his wife Wednesday afternoon in Lexington, police said.
The victim was shot multiple times at a residence in the 2800 block of Bay Colony Lane, adjacent to Masterson Station Park, authorities at the scene said. The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m. and several police and Lexington Fire Department vehicles arrived shortly after.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Talina Henderson, 47.
The suspect was identified as 59-year-old Stephon Henderson, the victim’s husband, according to Lexington police. He was detained by police Wednesday afternoon and Lt. Daniel Burnett said the suspect was compliant with officers when they arrived. Henderson has been charged with murder (domestic violence), violation of an emergency protection order, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Henderson is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $1 million bond. Henderson is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for an arriangment hearing in Fayette District Court.
The shooting, which is being investigated as a homicide, appears to be related to a domestic violence incident, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said.
A witness was reportedly present during the shooting and is cooperating with authorities, Ginn said.
This incident is the latest this year in a string of domestic violence related homicides around Lexington. The city has partnered with local figures and organizations for a campaign, “It’s Time,” aimed at educating residents about the issue.
