Driver charged with DUI after hitting van head-on in wrong-way crash, Lexington police say

A man in Lexington has been charged with DUI after colliding head-on with a van while driving the wrong way early Friday morning, according to Lexington police.

The accident happened on Nicholasville Road in the area of Arcadia Park shortly after 1:15 a.m., according to Lt. Daniel Truex with the Lexington Police Department. An SUV collided head-on with a van.

Truex said the driver of the SUV was traveling the wrong way going inbound on Nicholasville Road and struck the van. A small fire sparked in the van but it was extinguished quickly.

The driver of the SUV suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Truex. They have been charged with DUI.

The driver of the van was uninjured. It’s unclear if there were other occupants in the van.

The road was shut down while officials investigated the scene. It reopened at 2:45 a.m., Truex said.
