Police investigate report of shots fired near UK parking structure. No one injured

University of Kentucky officials say there was a report of shots fired on campus early Wednesday, but they have since cleared the incident.

The campus-wide alert about the shooting went out at approximately 1:30 a.m. Officials said the shooting happened near parking structure No. 1 at Cooper Drive and University Drive.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said a gun was fired from inside a vehicle and that it wasn’t an active shooter situation.

No injuries and no victims were reported, according to university officials. Officials said the emergency situation had passed roughly an hour after the first alert went out.

“There are no victims reported,” UK said in its second alert, clearing the incident. “We will share more information as it becomes available.”

Monroe said campus safety is the department’s top priority and highlighted some steps they’ve made to enhance student well-being, such as added investments towards the school’s emergency notification technology and active aggressor training

“Safety is a shared responsibility but an incident like this reinforces why these efforts are so important – this morning, our emergency notification system was activated immediately and police responded in less than two minutes,” Monroe said in a statement Wednesday. “We will continue to work to make our campus safe and prepared for any emergency.”

The shooting was still under investigation by UK Police Wednesday morning.
