A man died after being shot in the parking lot of a gas station near downtown Lexington Friday night.

The Fayette County coroner’s office identified him as Justin Cooke, 43.

Lexington police received multiple calls about the shooting at the Marathon at 300 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., at the intersection with Third Street, at about 7:30 p.m., Lt. Paul Boyles said.

When they arrived, he said officers found the man in the parking lot with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where police later said the man was pronounced dead.

As police were talking with a woman who had been in a vehicle at the scene, Boyles said she later realized she had been injured as well. The woman’s injury was not life-threatening. Police said she was also taken to a hospital.

Police did not have any information about a suspect to release.
