Man who died of gunshot wound in Lexington has been identified. Investigation underway.

A man in Lexington died Thursday evening after being shot, according to Lexington police.

Police received a report of a subject down in the 1200 block of Centre Parkway around 10:50 p.m. Thursday, according to Lt. Dan Truex with the Lexington Police Department. When officers arrived, police said they found a man inside a residence with a gunshot wound.

The Fayette County coroner’s office said the man, Lanelle Walker, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:40 p.m.

It’s unclear if an investigation will lead to charges against anyone.

Hannah Sloan, a spokesperson for LPD, said Friday that police had not yet determined whether “a criminal act” had occurred.

“At this time, it is still an ongoing death investigation, and we do not have any information to release,” Sloan said.

“The manner of death is pending investigation,” the coroner’s office said in a news release.
