A Lexington police officer was assaulted by a man who had a warrant out for his arrest Sunday, according to Lexington police.

The incident happened at the Day’s Motor Lodge on Versailles Road just before 5 p.m., according to Lt. Dan Truex with the Lexington Police Department. The wanted suspect, later identified as Stanley Baker, 45, allegedly assaulted a police officer and barricaded himself to avoid arrest.

Baker was arrested a short time later without further incident, Truex said. He was charged with third-degree assault, and his outstanding warrant was for an alleged parole violation.

The police officer suffered minor injuries and was checked out at the scene, Truex said.

Baker was being held at the Fayette County Detention Center Monday morning.

State records show Baker began serving parole on a charge of second-degree escape in February. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the charge back in March 2020.

He was supposed to stay on parole for a little over one year, records show.
