Updated: Name of victim in fatal shooting in Lexington has been released; Murder suspect arrested

Lexington police are investigating the city’s third homicide of 2023, officials said Friday.

Timonte D. Harris, 43, of Lexington, died as a result of gunshot wounds after the shooting in the 400 block of Chestnut Street Thursday night, the Fayette County coroner’s office said in a news release early Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:45 p.m.

Officers were dispatched to Chestnut Street just before 10 p.m. Thursday for a report of gunshots, according to Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department. Responding officers found one man and one woman shot when they arrived.

The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshot wounds to the head, according to court documents.

Police said they arrested Corry Jackson, 37, as a result of the investigation. He’s charged him with murder, assault and possessing a handgun as a convicted felon. He was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.

Witnesses who saw the shooting gave police a suspect description, court documents say. Jackson was located one block away and was arrested.

A witness later identified Jackson as the shooter, according to court documents.

The coroner’s office said an autopsy was performed Friday by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. Funeral arrangements for Harris were incomplete Saturday morning.
