Kentucky police charge a Texas man in a murder case that’s been open 8 years

Nearly eight years after finding a dead body inside a burned vehicle, Kentucky investigators have charged a man from Texas with murder.

On Aug. 1, 2014, 20-year-old Thomas Pendygraft was found inside a burned Dodge Caliber at a water reservoir on Booker Road in Springfield, where he was from, KSP said.

Information obtained throughout the investigation led to the arrest of 41-year-old Jonathan Puckett of Garland, Texas. KSP said two detectives traveled to Garland Wednesday and arrested Puckett.

Puckett has been charged with murder, arson, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and being a persistent felony offender, according to KSP. He is being held at the Garland Detention Center awaiting extradition to Kentucky.

The arrest was made “through a collective effort with the Dallas II Probation & Parole office and Garland Police Department,” KSP said in a news release.
