Updated: Man charged in deputy’s death also shot a man in Lexington, records say

The man who shot and killed a Scott County sheriff’s deputy also shot a man in Lexington and stole his vehicle, according to police and court documents.

Steven Sheangshang, 46, faces numerous charges from the two shootings, including murder of a police officer, robbery, assault, wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to his arrest citation. He’s being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

At 5:49 p.m. Monday police received a report of a shooting in the 2400 block of Georgetown Road, police said. The victim was shot in the abdomen and rushed to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for surgery, court documents say.

Sheangshang allegedly shot the victim and stole his vehicle, according to court documents. Investigators used the Real Time Intelligence Center, Flock license plate reader system and traffic cameras to locate the stolen vehicle on Whitney Avenue, and Sheangshang was arrested on Charles Avenue shortly afterwards, according to police.

Sheangshang was found with a handgun and six spent shell casings in a trash can in an attempt to discard evidence, court documents say.

The incident happened shortly after Scott County deputy Caleb Conley was shot and killed on I-75, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. Conley was conducting a traffic stop with Sheangshang when he was shot.

Sheangshang fled the scene and took a vehicle from a nearby residence in Georgetown before headed to Lexington, according to court documents.
