Lexington police: Man wanted on robbery, assault charges arrested after trying to flee
A man wanted on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault was found and arrested by Lexington police Thursday afternoon.
Police received information that the wanted suspect was spotted at the Day’s Motor Lodge on Versailles Road around 1 p.m., according to Sgt. Thomas Johnston with the Lexington Police Department. The man was identified as Rico Williams.
Williams fled from officers, but he was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, according to Johnston. Williams was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center Thursday afternoon.
The arrest stemmed from an April 28 incident in which Williams allegedly stabbed and stole money from a man on Alexandria Drive, according to court documents. The victim was sitting in his vehicle when Williams came up to the vehicle and demanded money.
When the victim said he didn’t have any money, Williams pulled out a small knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, court documents allege. The victim then gave Williams $120 in cash and Williams fled the scene.
The victim was sent to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries, court documents say.
The victim identified Williams as the culprit on Facebook, according to court documents.
Williams also faces a fourth-degree assault charge for an unrelated incident, according to court documents.
Williams is being held on a $10,000 bond for the second-degree assault charge and a $3,000 bond for the fourth-degree assault charge, according to jail records.
