Police: Two shot, one dead in an afternoon shooting near a Lexington park

A homicide investigation is underway after Lexington police found two minors suffering from gunshot wounds, and a third person dead in the area of Pine Meadows Park.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Pine Meadows Park and Tazewell Drive for a shooting around 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to Hannah Sloan, a spokesperson for the Lexington Police Department.

When they arrived, the found one juvenile suffering a gunshot wound who was later taken to a local hospital. A second young victim arrived at a hospital later on, also with a gunshot wound.

“While officers were searching the area, they located an individual who was later pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office,” Sloan said in a press release.

The coroner’s office later identified the victim as 16-year-old Christopher Valdez.
