Updated: Man seriously hurt in an overnight shooting later dies at hospital, police say

A man was killed in an overnight shooting in Lexington, according to police.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Whitney Avenue, which is near the Lexington Cemetery. Lt. Samantha Moore with the Lexington Police Department said responding officers found one man with a gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene.

The man was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Moore. The man died later at the hospital.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Stacey Marshall, 31. He was declared dead at 1:09 a.m. from a gunshot wound.

No suspect information was available, Moore said. The investigation was ongoing Thursday morning.

The homicide is the 12th in Lexington this year, including the third in the last eight days.
