A Louisville Metro police officer was in critical but stable condition after being shot Thursday morning, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Kentucky Street. LMPD said an officer was conducting a traffic stop when shots were fired towards police from a nearby home.

The officer conducting the traffic stop was shot in the chest, according to LMPD. A supporting officer was on scene at the time of the shooting and was uninjured.

LMPD later identified the critically injured officer as Brandon Haley. He remained in critical but stable condition Friday afternoon.

Haley has been with LMPD for a year and a half, according to LMPD. Police are hoping for a quick recovery.

“We are thankful that he survived his injuries, and remain cautiously optimistic,” LMPD said in a tweet. “We are grateful to UofL medical staff for their amazing care and treatment.”

The uninjured officer was identified as Colin Billotto. He has been with for over three years, according to LMPD.

LMPD’s hostage negotiation team, SWAT and other support officers were still at the home Thursday morning where the shots were fired, LMPD said just before 7 a.m.. Police asked people to avoid the area and for nearby residents to stay indoors.

LMPD said they concluded major operations at the scene Thursday afternoon and that several individuals of interest were being questioned.

Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed the shooting in a Facebook post Thursday and asked for people to pray for the injured officer and their family.

“Kentucky, we’re hearing reports that an officer was shot this morning in Louisville,” Beshear said in a Facebook post. “Please join Britainy and me in praying for this officer, their loved ones and all of LMPD.”

There is body-worn camera footage of the incident and it will be released within 10 days per LMPD’s policy, according to police.
