Updated: Suspect arrested after 80-year-old man killed in Lexington’s latest homicide
The Lexington Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after an 80-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Arliss Stewart. He was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m. from a gunshot wound. The coroner’s office said the incident happened in the 600 block of Marshall Lane.
Police said they responded to the home at roughly 7:43 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as 59-year-old James Bradburn, refused to leave the home.
Once police were able to enter the home they found Stewart dead on scene. Police said Bradburn was charged with murder and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.
Bradburn’s arrest citation says he approached Stewart and shot a hole in the floor. A struggle ensued before Bradburn shot Stewart, according to the citation.
Bradburn’s listed address on his arrest citation is the same address as where Stewart was pronounced dead by the coroner’s office.
Bradburn will be arraigned in Fayette District Court Friday afternoon, according to court records.
The fatal shooting marks the 16th homicide in Lexington this year and the first since Aug. 27.
A heavy police presence was seen in the area late Tuesday night.
