Updated: Missing Kentucky 5-year-old girl has been found safe after Amber Alert

A Kentucky girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert Monday has been found safely, according to Kentucky State Police.

Lela Black, 5, from Princeton, was located Monday afternoon after she was last heard from Friday. Her biological father, 42-year-old Byron Black, was taken into custody after police previously said he was wanted on a murder charge.

On Sunday, Kentucky State Police were dispatched to Lela Black’s home in Princeton and found the child’s mother, Kelly Black, dead from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. There is a murder warrant out for Byron Black, KSP said.

Kentucky State Police didn’t immediately provide more information. Byron Black was charged with murder — domestic violence and held at the Caldwell County Detention Center without a bond, according to jail records.

A police uniform citation filed in Caldwell District Court says state police found Black at the Stratton Inn in Princeton.

He was being held on $1 million bond Tuesday. Arraignment was scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
