A man was sent to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital Sunday after being shot by police, according to Kentucky State Police.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. on Brannon Mill Road near the Lily community of Laurel County. KSP said a man was shot and no officers were injured during the incident.

Officers were investigating a report of a possible intoxicated driver when the suspect fled from police, according to Trooper Scottie Pennington. The pursuit lasted roughly 10 minutes and ended with the shooting.

The suspect is expected to survive and charges were pending Monday, according to Pennington.

No other information about the incident was made available. It’s common for KSP to investigate shootings committed by enforcement across the state.

“To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered,” KSP said in a press release “Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.”
