Kentucky parents charged for allegedly agreeing to sell their twin babies for $5,000
A Kentucky man and woman have been charged with promoting human trafficking (victim under the age of 18) for allegedly agreeing to sell their twin babies for $5,000, according to court documents.
On Monday, a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was contacted by a woman claiming her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Zackary Davis and Jaquilyn Keith, had agreed to sell their newborn twin baby girls for $5,000, according to court documents. The woman had screenshots of conversations with Davis and a recording of Keith agreeing to sell the kids to her.
The woman and her wife had been watching the newborns for the parents for approximately three weeks, according to court documents. The babies were born on February 28.
The deputy spoke with Davis, who said he joked around about selling the babies for money and that the woman and her wife tried to talk him into keeping the children, court documents say. He eventually admitted to agreeing to sell the babies because he thought the woman and her wife were going to try to keep the kids.
The deputy also spoke to Keith, who said the woman and her wife has been keeping the newborns away from her. Court documents say she agreed to the sale of the children because she thought she was being setup by the woman and her wife and intended to take video of the sale to court.
Both Davis and Keith were booked into the Jackson County Detention Center Monday, according to jail records. They will be arraigned in Jackson District Court Monday.
