Driver charged in crash that left tractor-trailer dangling on Kentucky bridge
An Indiana man is facing charges in connection to a crash that left a tractor-trailer dangling from a bridge in Louisville earlier this month, according to court records.
The four-vehicle crash happened on March 1 on the Clark Memorial Bridge. The Louisville Metro Police Department previously said the wreck left a tractor-trailer dangling from the bridge above the Ohio River and the driver had to be rescued from the cab by Louisville Fire and Rescue.
Trevor Branham, 34, of Jeffersonville, In., is accused of causing the wreck that nearly sent the semi truck into the river, according to court records. Witnesses told officials Branham was weaving in and out of traffic and struck a stalled vehicle in the right lane.
After colliding with the stalled vehicle, Branham lost control of his truck and crossed into the northbound lanes of the bridge, where he hit the semi truck, according to court records. The tractor-trailer struck a support beam and went through the iron fence railing, leaving the cab dangling over the river and leading to the dramatic rescue.
The trailer caught the bridge beam and kept the vehicle from falling into the river, according to court records. Police previously said the driver’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Branham also hit another vehicle with two occupants, according to court records. Police previously said two people in one of the other vehicles involved in the wreck sustained serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.
Branham was also injured and transported to University of Louisville Hospital, court records say.
Branham has been charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, according to court records. He was also charged with operating on a suspended/revoked license after investigators learned his license was suspended due to charge from February 2024.
Branham’s partially secured his $20,000 bond when he was arraigned in Jefferson District Court on Friday. Court records say Branham is scheduled to be back in court on May 15 for a preliminary hearing.
