Man charged after shooting in high-profile, busy area of downtown Lexington

The Lexington Police Department has arrested a man accused of shooting another man in a high-profile, busy area of downtown.

The shooting happened around 10:35 p.m. Friday at the Stings Lounge on Main Street, according to court documents. Police previously said officers were responding to a report of a gunshot victim and found a man shot when they arrived.

The man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening-injuries, according to police.

On Monday police arrested Alonzo Richardson, 25, and charged him with first-degree assault and violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO, according to police. Richardson is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.

The entirety of the incident was captured on surveillance footage, according to court documents. Richardson and a vehicle registered to him were spotted on surveillance footage.

A cooperating witness who has known Richardson for approximately five years spoke to investigators, saying Richardson called the witness the night of the shooting and shared facts about the incident, according to court documents. Richardson told the witness, “I have to lay low now” and “I was disguised.”

Richardson is due in court Tuesday for an arraignment, according to court records.
