Eight people were displaced after an apartment fire near downtown Lexington Friday night.

The Lexington Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire at 402 Gunn St., off Elm Tree Lane, at 10:20 p.m., and heavy smoke was visible when they arrived, said Battalion Chief Derek Roberts.

He said several apartments were involved, but there were no injuries reported.

Roberts said a suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with wanton endangerment.

The name of the person arrested was not immediately released.

The cause and origin of the fire were still under investigation Saturday afternoon, Roberts said.
