Kentucky man accused of killing woman during carjacking
A Kentucky man has been charged with murder after police say he carjacked a woman, dragged her with her car, and then ran over and killed her.
In addition to murder, Michael Edwards, 41, of Clay County, was charged with carjacking, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree fleeing/evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to court records. His bond has been set at $1 million.
The incident happened sometime Saturday, but authorities did not immediately say where it happened. London police said they were alerted about 12:30 p.m. Saturday to Edwards being possibly en route to the London area.
After the carjacking and killing, police said, Edwards tried to break into a home and pointed a gun at the homeowner. He fled into the woods and was later spotted by two London police officers in a ravine of a field near the Laurel/Jackson County line.
Edwards fled again but was later caught and subdued by the two officers, according to London police. He was armed during the chase and the brief struggle.
