Kentucky sheriff accused of driving tractor drunk gets second DUI in less than a year
A Kentucky sheriff has been charged with driving while under the influence for the second time in less than a year, according to court records.
Terry Gray, 47, was arrested Sunday evening in the Mount Olivet community of Robertson County, where he is the sheriff. His arrest citation says he overturned a tractor on Sardis Road, and the fire chief reported Gray was acting erratically and possibly intoxicated.
Gray was able to get the tractor back upright and back on the road. Court documents say a Kentucky State Police trooper then spotted Gray on Main Street riding on the yellow line, and a traffic stop was conducted on KY-62.
The trooper smelled alcohol, according to court documents, and Gray was arrested after refusing to perform field sobriety tests.
Gray was transported to the sheriff’s office and declined to do a breath test after speaking with an attorney, according to court documents. He was then transported to a hospital for a blood test, which he denied as well.
A search warrant was later approved for a blood test on Gray, according to court documents.
Gray was previously charged with DUI in Robertson County in December. He was released from jail on his own recognizance the next day.
According to media reports, he was appointed county sheriff in 2021 and reelected the following year. He was previously a park ranger at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park.
