Gov. Beshear, top law enforcement to provide update on manhunt for Kentucky I-75 shooter
Gov. Andy Beshear will join law enforcement and local officials Tuesday to provide an update on the search for the man police say fired shots into a dozen cars on Interstate 75 in Laurel County, injuring five people.
Beshear will join Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. in London at noon Tuesday for the briefing on the search for Joseph Couch.
Local, state and federal officers have been looking for Couch, 32, since Sept. 7, when police say he used an AR-15 to shoot at vehicles from a ledge overlooking the interstate about nine miles north of London.
Couch then fled into the woods, and police have searched for the past 10 days on foot, as well as with drones, helicopters and dogs, over rough, wooded terrain.
He is facing five counts of attempted murder and five counts of first-degree assault. There were no fatalities in the shooting.
In addition to the governor and state police commissioner, the governor’s office said Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield, Laurel County Sheriff John Root, London Mayor Randall Weddle and London Police Chief Jerry Hollon will attend the briefing.
