A man was arrested and charged with murder on Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting last week on Russell Cave Road.

Steven McGaughy, 30, has been charged with murder, first degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree criminal mischief for the Sept. 27 shooting that killed 25-year-old Jaquan Grundy of Louisville, the Lexington Police Department said.

McGaughy was identified as the suspect through the use of the city’s FLOCK license plate readers, Real-Time Intelligence Center and FUSUS camera software. He is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.

Officers were called to the 1400 block around 2 a.m. last Friday for a shooting. They found a man with a gunshot wound who was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. He was later identified as Grundy.

It was the city’s 12th homicide of 2024.
