Kentucky man on the run for several days charged with killing his son

Kentucky State Police have arrested a man accused of killing his son and spending several days on the run from authorities.

The suspect, 59-year-old Steven Girtley, was arrested just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday inside a barn on his property in Franklin County, according to KSP. He has been booked into the Franklin County Detention Center and charged with murder.

Girtley had been on the run since Saturday evening. Police previously said they responded to a home on Flat Creek Road just before 10 p.m. Saturday for a report of an altercation between Girtley and his son, 36-year-old Justin Girtley.

The incident happened at Steven Girtley’s home, according to court records. Troopers found Justin Girtley dead with a gunshot wound, police said.

Steven Girtley was identified as the suspect multiple interviews with witnesses at the scene, according to court records. He fled into a wooded area before troopers arrived.
