A Paducah man is one of 39 people who was granted clemency by President Joe Biden on Thursday.

Edwin Allen Jones 60, pleaded guilty in 2003 to non-violent drug offenses in federal district court. At the time, he was working as a law clerk in Paducah, and his license was suspended.

Since successfully completing his two-month sentence, Jones has had a “notable legal career,” according to a White House press release. His law license was reinstated in 2006, according to court documents.

In addition to his legal career, Jones served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged. Jones participates in local government and volunteers for addiction recovery groups.

“Mr. Jones is described by community members as thoughtful, forward-thinking, and trustworthy,” according to a White House briefing.

In addition to the 39 individuals who were granted pardons, Biden commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500 people.
