Kentucky man who allegedly fired at officers charged with attempted murder of police
Police charged a Washington County man with trying to kill officers after he allegedly fired at them when they responded to a domestic violence complaint.
Bradley Steven Couch, 37, of Springfield is charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer; two counts of attempted murder; three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment; and one count of fourth-degree assault, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.
Patrick Stucker, a state trooper, said in a citation that when he and a Washington County sheriff’s deputy got out of their vehicles at a gate across Couch’s driveway on Dec. 11, he heard several shots fired from the direction of the house.
Police told Couch to come out of the house and he complied, authorities said.
Police found nine shell casings just outside Couch’s residence and a rifle inside that was still warm from being fired, according to the citation. A child in the house said she saw Couch point a gun toward the hill where police were parked.
Couch told police he was shooting into the woods to scare them away. He said he was scared because of some threatening text messages he had received “so he had to protect his family,” the citation said.
One of the kids in the house said Couch slapped his girlfriend earlier when they were at a Mexican restaurant.
Both adults were “very intoxicated” at the time, according to the citation.
The incident happened Dec. 11. Police issued details about it Monday.
