Frankfort family kept toddler and baby strapped in swing and car seat for days, police say
Four adults in one Franklin County family have been charged with child abuse after the sheriff’s office says they kept a baby and a toddler strapped in a baby swing and car seat for several days.
The 2-year-old and 7-month-old were subjected to “cruel punishment” when they were “intentionally left buckled” into the seats for several days, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in uniform citations filed against the parents and two other family members in district court.
“The children were found covered in urine and feces that appeared to be several days old,” two of the citations state. Police also said the children appeared to be malnourished.
The children’s mother, Megan Edgin, 21, was arrested Jan. 2, according to the citation. The father, Christian Dunaway, 23, was arrested Jan. 8.
Doug Dunaway, 51, and Terrie Dunaway, 43, were arrested Jan. 9.
All are charged with two counts of first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 or younger.
They were arrested on Duckers Road, near Midway and Frankfort, according to the police citations.
All four were also charged this month with second-degree cruelty to animals and not having dogs vaccinated for rabies, court records show.
According to police uniform citations, the sheriff’s office found two dogs without food or water at a house on Duckers Road.
One dog was in a cage filled with feces, the citation in Edgin’s case said.
“Ms. Edgin stated that the dog lives in the cage 24/7 and is never taken out,” the citation stated.
“The living conditions for the animals was poor at best,” the citations filed against Doug Dunaway and Terrie Dunaway stated.
