More than $12,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a Kentucky high school over the winter break, according to Kentucky State Police.

The theft is believed to have happened between Jan. 1-5 at Knott County Central High School. KSP said hand tools, power tools, garden tools and electronics were stolen from the agriculture department classroom and shop area.

Staff and students began winter break on Dec. 23, but KSP said various athletic events took place over break, and some staff were in the building during that time too.

KSP is investigating the theft and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call KSP Post 13 at 606-435-6069, the school at 606-785-3166 or Knott County Board of Education at 606-785-3153.
