Kentucky man charged with hitting horse with truck, killing the horse and injuring a minor

A Kentucky man has been charged with hitting a horse with his truck, killing the horse and injuring a juvenile who was riding it, according to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened Jan. 15 on Acup Road in Happy, Ky., on Jan. 15. The sheriff’s office said 23-year-old James Lumpkins hit the horse with his pickup truck.

Lumpkins drove away after the crash. The sheriff’s office witness statements and evidence identified him as the suspect, and they found him on Stacyville Lane on Tuesday.

Lumpkins fled law enforcement again, but he was eventually caught, according to the sheriff’s office. He was booked into the Kentucky River Regional Jail and charged with second-degree assault, cruelty to animals and leaving the scene of an accident.
