Police searching for suspect in Winchester Road homicide, Lexington’s first of 2025

Lexington police say they have identified a suspect in the city’s first homicide of 2025.

Crista Moreno, 35, has a warrant out for murder in a fatal shooting that happened this month on Winchester Road, according to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. Helen Taylor, 27, of Lexington, was found dead with a gunshot wound at the Sportsman Motel.

Moreno is Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ most wanted person of the week. Police are asking anyone with information about Moreno’s whereabouts to contact police at 859-258-3600.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers by calling their 24/7 hotline at 859-253-2020 or by filling out an anonymous form online. On Thursday Bluegrass Crime Stoppers announced a $10,000 initiative towards solving unsolved homicides. People who submit an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest of a homicide suspect could receive a cash reward up to $2,5000.

The fatal shooting was the city’s first of the year, according to Lexington police crime data. As of Friday the city has recorded two this year, neither of which feature an arrest.
