KY state trooper fatally shoots man he saw kneeling over woman with a knife, police say

A man died Tuesday morning after being shot by a Kentucky State Police trooper who was responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.

The trooper who arrived at a home near Morehead found Thomas Crouch Jr., of Clearfield, “armed with a knife kneeling over a female” inside, state police said in a news release.

The officer shot Crouch, who died after being taken to UK St. Claire in Morehead. The shooting happened at about 11:30 a.m., state police said.

The woman was taken to St. Claire for injuries sustained in the domestic violence incident. She was later released, according to state police.

The Kentucky State Police said their Critical Incident Response Team is investigating, and findings regarding the incident are preliminary.
