Mother arrested after infant found dead at Lexington home
A Lexington woman has been arrested after police say she concealed the birth of her baby, which was later found dead at her home.
Luz Jessica Gonzalez-Estrella, 28, went to a local hospital for treatment of postpartum complications Wednesday, the Lexington Police Department said in a news release Friday.
Police said in a uniform citation filed in Fayette District Court that Gonzalez-Estrella tried to hide the fact that she had given birth from friends and hospital staff, and police found the baby dead at her home on Darley Drive.
The uniform citation states that she “attempted to conceal the birth by placing the child in a trash can outside the home.”
Police said the child’s cause of death will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
Gonzalez-Estrella was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on charges of concealing the birth of an infant, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
