3 people killed in shooting outside Kentucky driver’s license branch

Three people were killed in a shooting Friday outside a driver’s license branch in Louisville, according to Louisville police.

The shooting happened around noon at the office on 6202 Willismore Drive near Dixie Highway. Louisville Metro Police Department said two women and one man were shot in the parking lot.

The man was declared dead on the scene, according to LMPD. The two women died at the University of Louisville Hospital.

LMPD said there are no known suspects. Maj. Donald Boeckman told Louisville news stations witnesses reported seeing suspects flee in a vehicle.

There is no threat to the public, Boeckman said. Most witnesses are cooperative.

“It’s absolutely a tragedy. And I’m surprised there weren’t more people injured with this. Many people were standing outside,” Boeckman told the news stations.

“We are thankful that all our employees are safe and our hearts go out to the victims of the incident,” Allen Blair, a spokesman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said in a statement. “We remain focused on our customers’ and employees’ safety. We did have security at the office when the incident occurred outside the building, and locked down the building immediately. Employees have left and the office is closed the remainder of the day.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call LMPD’s anonymous crime tip line at 502-574-5673. Anonymous tips can also be submitted on LMPD’s Crime Tip Portal.
